Mission Statement

Our aim is to develop an internationally-renowned centre for translational cancer research and cancer education. This will be achieved by maximising the strategic opportunities available from combining high-class basic science and trials infrastructure with the largest clinical referral base in Europe. 

Infrastructure

Key components of our infrastructure include:

  • The Cancer Research UK Cancer Centre, which includes one of the largest Clinical Trials Units in the UK

  • The Henry Wellcome Building for Biomolecular Nuclear Magnetic Resonance Spectroscopy (HWB-NMR)

  • The Centre for Clinical Haematology (CCH)

  • The Birmingham Experimental Cancer Medicine Centre (ECMC)

  • The Wellcome Trust Clincal Research Facility (CRF)

Research Activity is focused in six major areas which span the natural history of cancer from cellular transformation through to development of evidence-based therapy:

  • Cancer Cell Biology

  • Cancer Genetics and Epigenetics

  • Clinical Trials

  • Tumour Immunology and Immune/Gene Therapy

  • Viral Oncology
