Adenovirus Biology and use as a therapeutic agent
Gene therapy
My principal interest is in adenovirus biology. Current research is focussed on the natural history of adenovirus infection, and how the virus remains latent or persistent after primary infection. The interaction of adenovirus with the immune system is also under investigation, particularly in relation to bone marrow transplant recipients who succumb to serious adenovirus infections; the objective is to develop immunotherapy to treat such infections. The use of adenovirus as a therapeutic agent in cancer gene therapy continues as part of the translational medicine programme within the Institute.
